A Day in the Life; Tred final essay

Even before this project, I have already seen tatay Alfredo because I pass by the nearby overpass heading to the LRT station where he usually stays when he asks for alms every single day when I have to go to school, because I ride the Train whenever I go to school. Aside from being quite old, he does not have a sense of sight. I usually give him my spare change whenever I come across him but never in my entire life did I had in mind that one day I’ll be getting to know more about him.
My partner and I made this short documentary entitled “A Day in the Life”. It shows our short interview with tatay Alfredo during the first day and how we met up him during the second day. Apparently we didn’t get to record the last day of our meet-up with him. The documentary has these short video clips of the everyday happenings in Marcos-Highway and it also shows how much we are living in a fast-paced life.
For most of us, we haven’t realized what life is outside the box. We are used to living our lives in solitude wherein everything is given to us. Most of us complain about the very little things that we don’t have and we do not appreciate the big things that we have.
Making this documentary opened my eyes to the world that is outside the four corners of my classroom. I became more aware of what is happening and this may sound very cliché and overused but it made me realize how lucky I am to be in the position where I am in right now. I’ve learned that a lot of things do not come easy for most Filipino people, as to what tatay Alfredo just said, he has to beg for alms so that his family will have something to eat. It would be heaven for them to have food on their table while for most of us we don’t even care about the things that are given to us and whenever we don’t like the food that is being served we don’t eat it and we just throw it away, we do not think of those less fortunate people who are starving to death and will do anything just to fill their stomachs up. From this experience, I learned to be very grateful with what I have.
Overall, I can say that life really is a very rough transition and each person survives each day differently but behind all those burden, I must say that life is worth living, why?  Because it just is.
During the start of this term we watched a documentary about the two brothers who are in search of the meaning of life, One thing that is mentioned in the documentary is that “life is bigger than what we see”, In fact life is beyond what we see in my opinion. This course as a whole taught me what life has to offer and how grateful I should be with life and to treat everything that comes my way as a blessing. Now that the term is about to reach its end, the phrase I stated above has remained instill in my mind and in my heart. This course gave life a whole new meaning and it made me realize that when there is life, there is always a reason for us to live.
